| With the release of Progman Version 29.2(What BMW uses for diagnosic and programing) they now have the ability to see added plug and play performance software. That I know of this is only applicable to newer models that are still under warranty. But be aware that having such items may void all, or more likely portions of your warranty. I am only posting as an FYI.

| That's good info. I wonder if removable software leaves any trace or if you can remove it before sending the car to the dealer

Jeron (6/9/2008)
That's good info. I wonder if removable software leaves any trace or if you can remove it before sending the car to the dealer BMW probably considered such an act and made provisions to display such a move.

| Once the software is loaded, regardless of how and regardless of if it is/was removed, it will still be viewableknown by BMW. They used a similar process/program with the E36 and E46 M3"s when they kept eating motors from mis shifts and overrevs. Back then when one ate its motor the DME had to be sent to BMW Corp to be read. Apparently the turbo motors are popular to boost and do they do eat turbos. And according to a reliable source the infomation they are looking for can not be seen by the aftermarket scanners and only in part by the factory GT1. This is just a fault code to help diagnose other issues and make the tech aware that the software has been hijacked or modified and/or mods have been added.

I'm surprised there are not more comments on this. Maybe everyone is laying low on this subject.

Trent @ Lone Star Bavarian (6/9/2008) Apparently the turbo motors are popular to boost and do they do eat turbos. How can an owner mod the motor such that it eats turbos? What happens to the turbos and why? Anyone care to jump in with a reply?

| Isn't that interesting... I wonder if it can track a custom tune like you can do via a Dimsport? I'd bet they could trace anytime you change the A/F, advance, etc., though... Hell, my car was so "warranty void" by the time it was 2 years old it wasn't even funny. Hopefully, our friendly AX support person that comes out from a local dealer isn't writing down names, VINs, etc. Funny thing is that MINI talks about taking your car to the track or autocrossing on their website and yet their warranty information EXPLICITLY says you cannot do those things or you will void your warranty...
I'd rather be autocrossing...

| Is it possible that the factory BMW guys can not read what was removed, and it is just a scare tactic that some joker is spreading?
