If you missed this show try to, it was entertaining. Started with backround/history of the M cars with some great old racing clips. The heart of the show was Tommy Kendall vs Boris Said vs John Andretti vs Graham Rahal. They used the track in Spartanburg and put them head to head hammering on the M. Although my budget won't allow one after this show I wish I could. Anybody else see it?

Yes. The electronic nannies really helped that porker of a "3" series. Doesn't it weigh nearly as much as my E34 M5?

Too bad we don't put more of our tech advances into lighter/more efficient cars instead of more gadgets and more efficient engines to compensate for the resulting heavier cars.

Watched it last night.

Funny at the beginging how they kept emphasizing how important weight was to BMW and how the engine was lighter and the roof was carbon fiber, but they never said but oh yeah it weighs more than its predecessor. LOL

Love the sound of that V8.

They're not going to bag on the cars in these test drives. They're basically big marketing plugs.  You may hear a couple of small negatives to give the air of objectivity, but that's about it. Still fun to watch! I unfortunatey haven't had time to watch this one yet. I wish they'd do one for the 135i too.

interesting that James Clay indicated on the E30 M3 SIG that the "porker of a 3 series" is an outstanding car, and it's weight is not noticeable at all.  He opined that this car is far better than the E36 and E46 versions.

As far as I am concerned, the E36 is a"  porker"  also, compared to the E30 M3.Doesn't mean that the E36 hasn't been a good sports sedan and  a very competitive racecar.

The engines have become more powerful, and several BMW models have used tech improvements to reduce weight.Aluminim in the front end of the E39 5 series... The E92 V8 weighs LESS than the S52 in the E36.   Weight is certainly UP, but performance has MORE than kept pace.

The Tv show was entertaining.. actually a bit more so that versions in the past, due to the footage from the performance center.

Yeah, it was more entertaining than other cars I've seen on that show.  Good stuff.

AGREED.

The 3 series is so big and fat now they had to create a 1 series underneath it... that's bigger and heavier than the E36 3 series, and dwarfs the E30!
