Spectators are welcome. There will be lots of eye candy and plenty of fun people to meet. The Instructors are the only people allowed to take passengers, are they are usually pretty busy. It doesn't hurt to ask.

A friend of mine is wondering, do you need to be a BMWCCA member to do the DE?

It would be nice to have more detail posted on the LSC home site w/o having to contact Greg or register at the other site. Times, cost, rules, other general stuff that newbies like me don't know, etc. It would take some of the mystery out of it for the new blood.

The signup said you had to be a BMWCCA member.

The time will probaly 7:30 to 5 each day.  Four sessions each day of about 20min each.

Long pants, natural fiber clothes and a M2000+ or SA2000+ helmet.

I agree it should all be the website, if it isn't.

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback, sometimes we forget what it's like for a first timer. We do send out all the necc info to students prior to the event, but I agree that info should be on the website. I'll have another page added with more event details.

To answer a few questions;

Yes, we would like for you to be a club member. This is for tax reasons, to keep the IRS happy.

The day of the event, registration in the clubhouse opens at 7:15. The last group of students will come off track at 5:00. so figure on being there all day, both days.

Requirements are; your car must get inspected and you must bring a signed tech sheet with you to the event. Like Jeron said, you must have a helmet that is Snell 2000 or newer rating, and have a signe4d helmet waiver. You must wear the proper clothes, namely long pants of a natural fiber (cotton good, synthetics not so much), tight fitting closed-toed shoes (sneakers good, sandals, not). Short sleeves are exceptable. Alos bring anything you might want to make a day in the sun more pleasurable...hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, maybe a lawn chair and an ice cooler. We will provide ice cold bottled water, compliments of Classic BMW, and a lunch vendor will be onsite too.

Unfortunately, our convertible rules are very restrictive, due to our insurance policy. Detailed specifics are on the website :

http://www.lscbmwcca.org/motorsports-convert_rules.html

Yes, we know they are restrictive, and yes we'd love to allow drop top Z3s, Z4s, Minis, 3 series, Z8s, 503s and new M6 converts. But unfortunately, that is not up to us and we have no leeway in the rules. If you have the required safety equipment, you are good to go. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly.

Spectators are not only welcome, they are encouraged. In addition to the school, there is a club race, and Classic BMW will have their hospitality tent, and a good number of the new models there. Plenty of eye candy to drool over!

Hope this answers some questions, keep them coming, and we'll get some more of the basic info on the website for folks who are considering thier firsat DE.

ALSO...you do not need a race car, an //M car, or even a BMW to participate. We invite everyone to participate. We routinely have 7 series, 318 sedans, wagons, X5s, subarus, Nissans, Camaros, VWs...all are welcome, and all have a great time!

Hi, Y'all,

I've lurked for years, but have finally decided to take the plunge. (get the lifeboats ready! - whale in the water)

I've been looking for info so I can keep personal embarrassment to a minimum, but I'm not finding a lot and time is quickly drawing to the end.

There was something in the registration about numbers. What do I need to know about that?

I have tried on several helmets and (sized according to measurements) they are extremely uncomfortable. Though I've been called 'fat head', I didn't realize it was so big. Greg S suggested Helmet City as an online source, and I still have time (maybe), if I get it ordered tomorrow. Anyone who's bought one recently, care to comment on how tight I have to suffer? I have tried a few full and open-faced models, but haven't found a 2xl open face on the shelf.

Mavs PCA site has a DE handbook that I look through, and it is a bit intimidating. I guess I should have visited an event before now to have a better feel for what to expect.

Thanks for any helpful (patient) suggestions.

Your helmet should be snug not tight.  I would think you could get an XL or XXL online on monday to get it by Friday.    Most sites have a measuring method to the madness.  I have purchased all of my helmets on the internet with no issue.  Another place to buy ishttp://www.motodirect.com/servlet/StoreFront  I just purchased a SNELL 2005 for my son for $59.  Measure your head and go from there.  If it doesnt fit, you can return it.

As far as a DE handbook.  Dont worry about it, just come to have fun.  Bring some water and a chair.  when you get there remove all the junk from your car and your ready to go.
