Anyone have experience with repeaters that would cover around 3000 sq/ft?  It would need to be dual band...and it would have to actually work.

I think you should look into a product called a Femtocell.  It is sold by your cellualr operator and connects into your broadband connection in your home to link into the operators network.   They work great.  Down sides are:  They carry all cellular traffic they can see [even your neighbor], you are paying for the femtocell and the broadband connection, it uses your home bandwidth, the early versions are Rx1TT and don't carry data. 

But they do work!  Sprint has them, I think that T Mobile has them at Fry's
