What is a shock dyno?

It measures force vs displacement and velocity

How can I determine if the shock is still good or needs to be replaced?

I'm certainly familiar with bouncing the corner up and down but things are a little stiff on the e36 M3 as it is.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill

Is it leaking lots of fluid? Making terrible noises?

Move the corner of the car thru a full range of motion and listen for noises, clunks, or pops. Usually you will HEAR noises or SEE fluid if something went ka-pow! A shock dyno plot could show the damage, especially if you checked both shocks from that end of the car (they should have similar/identical force/velocity plots)...

Sending your shocks out for a dyno plot isn't cheap. Just look and listen to them and see if you can find any damage.

If you bought it from a place like TC Kline, they'll send it in for you. Usually they make you buy a new one then they'll refund your money if it was bad or charge you as if you had one rebuilt.

Terry / Brian,

There's no leakage nor is anything making noise.

It just took a good, storm culvert, "two rims bent," teeth jarring hit.

The strut and shock are part of the DINAN package.

I don't know if it is a proprietary or off the shelf version.

Thanks for your insights,

Bill
