The M3 made its debut yesterday with the AST 4100s on it.  Terry was way out front until an Evo snuck in and took the lead by 0.2s.  Pennington is extremely favorable to AWD.  As we all know, it is tizight.  Ronnie from AST will be here the weekend of the next BMW autocross.  We're going to bring him out to show him what the crazy Americans are doing in the middle of nowhere Mineral Wells.   Can't stay all day though, because we're being trained on rebuilds and custom valving.

HA!  Course designer:  Please put some turns in this course to slow Doug down.

BTW, we should have prototype double adjustables on the car for that event.  They are telling me the rears have 40mm pistons.  Yummy!

Both Terry and Amy did some great driving out there yesterday.  The car looked great and very composed.

Thanks for the kind words, Thomas... 2nd place snuck right up and got me on the last (5th) run at that SCCA event. Dang Pennington with those AWD boost buggies. Well, at least a Vorshlag sponsored and AST equipped car is the one that got the win.

Some good pictures here (we're finally shooting with Hanchey's Nikon SLR + real lenses at events): Gallery

Here's some more up-to-date info about AST:

AST Video Link (great video)

New pictures. This stuff looks like a million bucks! Vorshlag spec'd AST 4100 series shown at left, AST Sportline 1 shown at right. The Sportline 1s come with 400#/in springs front and rear. The 4100 series comes with a wide variety of spring rates.

Prices from $999 (Sportline 1) to $1500 (4100 series) for single adjustable coil-over racing shocks, available with or without springs. Camber plates and rear shock mounts are also available separately.

http://www.vorshlag.com/cart/index.php?manufacturers_id=10 - all of our current AST goodies

Since we are local to DFW and have shock rebuilding and revalving capabilities, the LSC folks will benefit from  on site support and for quick turn around on services. All racing shocks are typically rebuilt every 2-3 seasons to keep them consistent, but this is less of an issue with the newer monotube designs vs old school (pre-WWII) twin tube designs.

Here the 4100 series E36 struts are shown with the E36 Vorshlag camber plate (new 100% CNC, engraved revision). Our new double adjustable ASTs arrive this week so we should have them in for the next Mineral Wells event. We can already supply AST triple adjustables with remote reservoirs. As added adjustability goes up so does cost, of course. The AST offerings are less expensive than Olhins, JRZ, etc, but are of similar design and quality. They almost compare well in price against low-tech Konis but are vastly different internally (i.e. better).

Thanks,

Terry Fair - www.vorshlag.com & www.ast-usa.com

Any DA E30 M3 fitments?  That's the hot ticket for Prepared cars right now, but we can't run remote reservoir...booo.

We should have a set of E36 DAs here this week for testing.  Once we prove that in, we can do others.  They like to have a set of E30 uprights to start with since they build the strut off of that.  This is not an insert so they need the upright to start with.

Our three test MINIs have been pounding on their sets... One ran the DE last weekend, two of them are headed to MINIs On the Dragon this weekend (the Dragon being that infamous road in Deals Gap, NC), and several autocrosses coming up. So far, the AST's have been quite awesome...

I'd rather be autocrossing...
