For those who don't do repairs yourself, where have you gone to get your brakes replaced? I replaced the ones on my old M Coupe at a DIY event, but I don't have time to do the same to my 330i.

Classic wants $715 to replace the FRONT pads and rotors, and, yes, I do want to replace the rotors. I could see paying this for the entire car, but just the front seems extremely high to me.

Help?

We can get anything you need from Porterfield - pads, rotors, etc. And, since they're insanely easy to change, we'd be willing to help you swap them out.

Check out Porterfield's website and let us know...

Call Jeff @ 972 618 0876

I'd rather be autocrossing...

I'll help, but my schedule is pretty tight.  It's a 1 hour job tops.  I'm in Hurst.

Front parts:
rotors $75 x 2
pads $50 to 80
brake fluid $7 (Castrol Synthetic DOT4 @ Autozone)

Optional:
pad wear sensor ~$10
rotor hold down bolt ~$2
caliper rebuild kit ~$10 (1 or 2)
liquid wrench
anti-seize
caliper lube

Seriously? That would be awesome! Do you have a lift, jacks, tools, etc? I have nothing but a socket set and a hammer. Doing it like this want void my warranty, will it?

you mean the warranty that doesn't exist on the parts you are replacing?

There is no single  modification to your vehicle that you can do that would render the entire vehicle void of a warranty.  IF ANY dealer service tech tries to sell you that old tired bill of goods, IMMEDIATELY ask for the  manager, and ask if they are familiar with the Magnusson Moss Warranty Act and  the service manager will very quickly advise that the tech eas in error.

now go and change your pads (and rotors if you insist).  Jeron is right.. this is easily a 1 hour job.

No need for a lift especially for a brake job.

I have everything.  I do the job about a dozen times a year going from street pads/rotors to track and back.

You may still be able to get lifetime rotors form Oreilly.  I have them on my 330i.  I think they are just over $100 each for the lifetime free replacement rotors.  Otherwise get them from PelicanParts or RMEuropean for about $75.  I have yet to see any difference in brands.  (Zimmerman, Wagner, BMW etc)  Make sure you get the correct parts, 330 rotor and pads are diff than 328 and 325.

Pads are a personal choice.  BMW are lousy with dust.  Hawk HPS are very good.  Oreilly Wagner(Textar) Lifetime are good but maybe a touch too little torque.  Hard for me to say, I'm used to track pads.

If your light is on you need a pad wear sensor.

Get the Castrol Synthetic DOT4 at Autozone.  1 Qt bottle

I'm sure I could make time within a week of you getting the parts together.  It would likely be a Weekend morning or a Weekday evening.

A lift makes every job easier.  It was money well spent!
