7-11 has Aluminum Slurpee Straws for 99c.

Comes in many colors including Byzanz to match my car and a Burgundy to match my bike.  They look like they might be Anodized but I'll bet they are painted.  They are colored inside and out and have "SLURPEE" silk-screened on them.

When you drink 1/2gal of Slurpee each day you break a few straws and now I dont have to keep extras in reserve.

Rating:
10 for Coolness
10 for Durability
8   for interesting sensation of the cold straw on the lips
5   for making my Slurpee melt faster

Holding on to my .99 to put towards $7.49 CF straws which are certainly right around the corner. (lighter weight, better thermal properties).

Ok, Jeron wasn't kidding. No Cosmos Black, but there is one that is very close to Estoril (sp?). Will have to make an appointment to have it reshot by our DE chairman to match the car.

I agree even at $7.49 the CF straws are the way to go.  They cant be that hard to make maybe we can find a local supplier.

I doubt that the aluminum units would be painted, especially inside. Most likely anodized.

Will CF allow you to be faster though? If so, I would think that could pose as a safety concern given the direct correlation between speed drinking a slurpee and getting a brain freeze.

I forgot to mention the bore on the Aluminum straw is 65% larger , 9mm instead of 7mm, which means 63.5 vs 38.5mm sucking area.  You really have to be careful because you can put down a 1/2gal mug of slurpee in short order.

If they make CF straws I hope they reduce the bore back to 7mm or even 6mm to account for the extra velocity that CF imparts to whatever touches.

I think I read somewhere that Scott Speed was actually supposted to be testing a prototype of the CF straw, but almost died from dehydration waiting for someone to hand it to him.

I agree about the reduction in diameter for the CF straw, however this does present another issue- pressure.  With reduced diameter and increased velocity, slurpee substance will be spewing out of the end of the CF straw at break-neck speeds and thus could cause undesired stress on the roof of one's mouth.  My advice would be to cut back to 7mm or 8mm, and have an instructor ride with you the first time you test the new CF straw as things could get messy in a hurry if you're not experienced.
