| I'm thinking of buying a 97 R1100RT 40k from a buddy who just upgraded to a K1200LT(?). Any advice, comments, concerns, suggestions?

Great bike.
Let's go for a ride when you get it. I've got a K75RT and a R100RS.
The local BMW club is very active. www.bmwdfw.org
They have breakfast meeting weekly on Saturday morning, and at least one organized ride per month. Their monthly meeting is in the mid cities at a Spring Creek.

| I'm going to see it in person tonight. It will be my first bike. I decided the sport/touring class would be good until I decide exactly what I want. I'm 100% sure that a sport bike would be bad for me.

The RT's are not small bikes. The knock on BMW's in general is that they require long legs. The riding position is comfortable for long rides, but the ground is a long way down.
If this is your first bike, I must insist that you take the Rider Safety Course. It will be a well spent weekend.

| It is a little bigger than I was imagining but not by much. I'm planning on the rider safety course. Not looking forward to killing a whole weekend though. Maybe I'll take a couple days off.

| Bought it. Rode it across my driveway a dozen times then around the neighborhood for about 15 min. Lots to learn but I feel like I'm taking to the bike pretty well. I plan to ride it around again tonight. Damn insurance is cheap. 35 for liability and 20 to add $500 ded comprehensive. $56 a year + a one time 68 fee to Al Boenker. I'm taking the class Tue Wed at Pennington.

| Finished the class yesterday. POURING rain Tue during our lunch break just before the riding started. Rained off and all all afternoon. Wed started out nice and overcast but by noon it was sweltering and by the end of the day scorching. Overall a great time. One bad student cost us a bunch of practice time and made the class go over schedule. I aced the whole thing and had fun on the little 250. I wouldn't mind having one to toss around. Huge differnece between the 250 and my heavy high-inseam RT.
