Talk about an old thread.  It think this was one of the first on the forum, but I resurrecting it anyway.

My last batch of filters went 27 months, I kinda forgot about them.  The main house unit gets the most use and it was very dirty but the other two were not too bad, but ready.

Prices for 20x24x4 at Lowes are $25 each which is great.  They were MERV 11 and made by Air Demon.

We had an A/C guy come do a check up on our house recently.  He said that style was good.  The ones you have to watch for are when the cross strips are GLUED on, not one piece like those pics.  He said the glued on ones in a month or two will come off and eat up your fan.  I changed them only to find one strap hanging on by a dab of glue on one side and flopping around on the other.

The cross strips on these don't serve much purpose because there is a diamond shape mesh behind it that is hard to see in the pic.  The mesh is made out of stiff plastic, I assume.

I buy 3m Filtrete (purple) Ultra Allergen from Home Depot/Lowest.  Seems to help the family's allergies.  My electronic thermostat tells me when to change them out according to hours used.
