Directions to Mineral Wells:

There are two routes from the DFW Metroplex...

1) Take I20 West to Exit 414 (Hwy 180)

  • From the point you exit from I20 onto Hwy 180 the remainder of the trip takes about 30 minutes..
  • Also note that there are often cops that have speed traps on this route so if you go this route watch your speed on 180.
  • Take Hwy 180 thru the city of Weatherford, continuing on past Cool and into Mineral Wells.
  • After you pass Subway on the left, you will come to a 3 way stoplight that is FM 1195. Turn south (L) at the stoplight for FM 1195 to get to the airport.
  • The next four way stop sign is FM 1821. There is a brick sign for Mineral Wells Airport on the SE corner. There is a water tower to the left..Turn Left.

2) The route I favor is to stay on I20 to exit 394 ( CR 113)

  • Take 113 N into Milsap... and after the railroad tracks turn left onto FM3028.
  • Take 3028 to FM1195 and turn right to go NB on 1195
  • Go NB on 1195 until you come to a stop sign and see the brick Mineral Wells airport sign on the SE corner and a water tower on your right. This is FM1821. Turn Right.
  • Once onto 1821 turn right at the first fork (Harvey Road) go left at the next fork, (Airport Road) and then take the left fork at the next road... you will pass a hangar and go onto the edge of the autocross tarmac...

PLEASE stay to the right as you enter and be aware of the pointer cones that will prevent you from driving onto the course.... Find a spot to park along the fence in the paddock..... The trip is 80 miles one way from Vista Ridge Mall (I-35 and I-121 in Lewisville) and takes about 75 minutes.

Directions to Grayson County Airport:

  • I-75 N to Exit #65 ( Sign says Grayson County Airport/Grayson
  • Community College/FM691)
  • Turn L (West) at end of ramp... go 4.0 miles
  • Turn Right (North) on FM 1417 and travel 1.4 miles
  • Turn L (West) on Refuge travel 1.0 miles, cross RR tracks, continue straight .9 miles
  • Turn L (South) on Hardenburg Lane, travel .7 miles
  • Turn L into the compound
  • There is a building and sign at the entrance gate located at at 3014 Hardenburg lane....
  • Go past the building on the right and you will see everyone.

Remember to Bring:

  • Cooler with drinks and or snack/lunch
  • Chairs if you wish
  • Hat and/or umbrella for protection from sun or rain
  • Sunscreen
  • Wear multiple layers of clothing
  • Helmet

The temperature usually feels 10 degrees hotter or colder (whichever is worse) than the metroplex.... The wind is also a factor as there is a lot of open space and very little in the way of shelter.

If you wish to go out for lunch, there is a Subway, McDonald's and a few other restaurants about 10 minutes from the airport... There is usually one or two "port o let's" as facilities or you can drive to the aforementioned restaurants.

See you there!
